Eufaula, Alabama

Middle East Peace Rally
10:00a.m., CST
Monthly Event
The event will move from city to city, on a monthly cycle. Once some resolution has been reached in Palestine, we will focus on Darfur, and so on and on.
The event is in protest of the systemic
agenda of genocide, perpetrated by the IDF against the hapless Palestinian people in Gaza and THe Transjordan. For more than sixty years, the great powers of the world have acquiesced to the money of the Zionists, and it is now time to repudiate that policy. The peace of the world is at stake, and we must not miss this opportunity to allow another holocaust, primarily a nuclear holocaust, which will destroy all of us.

Historic fearlessYOGA Teacher Training
Friday, April 2nd 2010
Historic fearlessYOGA Teacher Training (fYTT)| April 2 - 28, 2010
Residential Intensive Certification Program

Application Deadline: March 19, 2010 | Scholarships available

fearlessYOGA is the first and only yoga approach ever designed for activists, allies, and agents of social change and this is the first teacher training offered on fearlessYOGA.

fearlessYOGA is Yoga Built for Justice

"Developed and instructed in a social justice framework that relates how we engage on the mat to how we behave in the world, the practice is returned to its rightful place as a personal practice for inner-life development, liberated from the mainstream, thus ownable by agents of social change."
-- angel Kyodo williams, Founder, Center for Transformative Change

Unique highlights and perspectives of the fYTT curriculum:

* Technique: fearlessMeditation: practice of the body
* Teaching Methodology: Social Justice "From Oppression to Liberation" & "Paradigms of Freedom"
* Philosophy: Introduction to Sanskrit
* Teaching Methodology: "Language of Freedom" Communication
* Philosophy: "Returning to Source: Yoga Sutras of Patañjali Study"
* Anatomy & Physiology: "Every Body DIfferent Body: The Structure of Limits"
* Lifestyle: Eating & Wellness

fearlessYOGA has been developed as a yoga practice specifically oriented towards activists. The precise language and approach of the "Effort & Release" teaching framework directly corresponds with the seminal yogic text, the Yoga-Sutras. The method illuminates the habit-patterns of aggression and over-doing by introducing postures in incremental levels of engagement. Alternatively, it encourages activists to learn to "back off" of over-reaching in exchange for discovering one's own internal pace and alignment.

The fearlessYOGA Teacher Training is a certification program that empowers the student-practitioner with both certification as a fearlessYoga Teacher (C-fYT) while also meeting the minimum requirements to become a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level (RYT200).

We welcome you to live, learn, and transform here, while immersing yourself in a residential, yogic lifestyle. fYTT has been designed in ways that will cultivate your ability to thrive in your personal and professional life and graduate as a unique fearlessYoga teacher, with a well-developed connection to a deep source of inspiration—and the ability to guide others into theirs.

The fearless School of YOGA is a Yoga Alliance registered school. (RYS No. 48583. Newly registered.) http://www.yogaalliance.org/

Civil Liberties in the Time of Obama
Tuesday, March 16th 2010 1 PM
“Civil Liberties in the Time of Obama”
Tuesday, March 16, 1 PM
Fireside Room, Unitarian Center
1187 Franklin St (betw. O’Farrell, Geary), SF
Free, Wheelchairs OK
A SF Gray Panther Program, Public Invited

As with war, Obama has been disappointing on civil liberties issues, such as the extension of the Patriot Act, extraordinary renditions, military tribunals, detentions without charges, not charging the architects of torture, not closing Guantanamo, and failure to intervene in the cases of Mumia and Lynne Stewart.

Similarly, Obama has been disappointing on immigration issues, such as family separations, widespread ICE raids, mass firings, police checkpoints, continued immigrant detention and deportations, and a network of secret detention facilities violating basic rights and needs. Meanwhile an immigration reform bill is being introduced that promises to arouse more controversy.

Angela Chan, a lawyer from San Francisco’s Asian Law Caucus, a leading advocate for civil liberties, will describe the impact of some of these trends, especially for San Francisco’s Sanctuary City policy.

Ms. Chan has been active in fighting the deportation of immigrant youths arrested for felonies without any investigation of whether the arrests were based on facts or simply racial profiling by the police. Many of these charges were later dropped, but the youth are already deported to countries where they often have no family support. In response to community outrage, Supervisors passed an ordinance that bars turning over juvenile immigrant arrestees to ICE unless subsequent hearings establish the arrestee was actually guilty, but Mayor Gavin Newsom has refused to implement this law.

Join a six-session study of Socialism on Trial, the official record of the testimony by James P. Cannon at one of the most important political trials in U.S. history. Defending himself in court in against charges of sedition for opposing U.S. imperialist aims in WWII, Cannon explains key Marxist theory and elucidates how socialism would transform the world and why it’s worth fighting for. The lessons from this case are indispensible tools for today’s anti-capitalist fighters and those interested in demystifying the current economic crisis and seeking alternatives to corporate rule.

Thursday, March 11th 2010 7:30pm
The German Socialist Clara Zetkin (1857-1933), mother of International Women’s Day, mobilized through her stirring speeches against war, fascism and U.S. Jim Crow laws. The U.S. and the ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
Sunday, March 28th 2010 1:00 P.M.
The African continent and islands within its African Union have
signed the Pelindaba Treaty designating their countries as a Nuclear Weapon Free Zone. Other nations in South America, Asia, the South Pacific, the Caribbean and Antarctic have also signed similar
treaties. They were all commended by the United Nations for contributing to
a world free from nuclear weapons, the ultimate goal for the world’s
survival as President Obama stated in Prague last April. However, an
impediment to that goal is the Island of Diego Garcia within the African Union, the site of one of the most valuable and secretive U.S.military bases overseas. The U.S. signed the Pelindaba Treaty’s protocols in 1996 but after a heated debate did not ratify them.

(Speakers to be confirmed)

Learn more at our Forum, a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as the United Nations begins its review of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in May 2010.

Please "forward" far and wide. Thank you!

PEACEBUILDING PEACELEARNING INTENSIVE
August 1-7, 2010
Wilmington College * Wilmington, Ohio

The week-long Peacebuilding Peacelearning Intensive is designed for individuals and organizations who hope to launch new peacebuilding and change initiatives or enhance existing efforts. Participants will be coached in the design and development of a strategic peacebuilding plan that they will take back to and implement in their community or initiate in an organization they already work with. The plan will be assessed and evaluated by instructors and peers, and the National Peace Academy will provide ongoing guidance for project development after completion of the Intensive.

The Peacebuilding Peacelearning Intensive is intended to advance the development of the full spectrum of knowledge, skills and capacities of the peacebuilder - inner and outer, personal and professional. In doing so it will provide a holistic introduction to the theory and practice of peacebuilding and will engage participants in cooperative learning experiences designed to empower citizens to critically inquire into what needs and conditions are necessary for assuring a sense of security personally and socially; to envision, plan and strategize for the establishment of a just and sustainable social, political and environmental order that assures each and every citizen is safe, secure and able to live with dignity; and to facilitate the individual and communal learning required to make such transformations possible.

People will just go outside buildings everywhere and take a stand for peace. Neighbors will meet on sidewalks, parking lots, gardens, city parks, state parks,in main streets and plazas ----just anywhere! Those who are homebound can choose how to participate inside. We don't have to make it a march, although some may choose to organize marches. We can have candlelight vigils, prayers, hold hands, dance and sing. We have solidarity now. We have unity now. All for peace. Our roar shall sound around the world: "We're in Charge for Peace!" there are billions of us. Together we can send a powerful message to the rulers who believe in war. "Learning to Read the World from Multiple Perspectives: Peace Education toward Diversity & Inclusion"

The International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE) 2010 will take place in Colombia from July 12-18, 2010. The Institute is being co-organized by the National Peace Academy (home of the IIPE secretariat) and Fundación Escuelas de Paz in partnership with the Colombian National Ministry of Education and a consortium of organizations invested in furthering peace education in Colombia.

The IIPE was founded in 1982 by Dr. Betty Reardon and faculty colleagues at Teachers College Columbia University and has been held annually in different parts of the world. For 27 years the IIPE has been providing unique short-term, residential, cooperative learning experiences in peace education. The IIPE is not a conference but rather a "learning community" in which the organizers and participants work together to nurture an inclusive, highly interactive learning environment. It is an intensive multicultural and cooperative learning experience in which participants learn from and with each other about substantive peace issues and interactive teaching approaches. The IIPE is also an opportunity for networking and community building among those who educate and work for a culture of peace in the host region and around the world.

The movement cannot and should not be identified with a specific group or organization; it is an expanding movement of those who have started to develop the quality of GRACE in their hearts. You will recognize them not by their signs and signals, but by the way they behave, act and talk.
